Termidor is a slow-acting insecticide and this "delayed-action" effect allows insects like termites and ants, which live in colonies, time to carry some of the insecticide back to the nest where it contaminates the whole colony. This is why Termidor works well for carpenter ants and termites as a foundation or perimeter spray because workers pick up the insecticide as they travel back and forth from the nest and thus contaminate the whole colony.  Termidor is very affective on Drywood termites which are very prevalent and numerous in the southern California and the  southern U.S.
While perimeter treatments for carpenter ants can be done by homeowners with the proper application and safety equipment, treatments for termites generally require equipment and expertise beyond that available to most homeowners.
